What do we do
Camping and Wilderness Survival
Pathfinders regularly spend weekends outdoors to learn how to live comfortably in nature. Club members learn how to pitch various types of tents, pitch temporary tarp shelters, and select safe campsites. They master fire-building using minimal tools, learn how to cook meals over open coals, and study how to purify natural water sources.
Earning Honour Badges
Honours are specialized patches that pathfinders earn by completing specific, hands-on learning requirements across various fields. The curriculum covers hundreds of topics categorised into segments like Nature (e.g., Astronomy, Marine Mammals), Arts and Crafts (e.g., Glass Craft, Leathercraft), and Vocational Skills (e.g., Auto Mechanics, Computer Science). To earn a badge, a Pathfinder must pass both practical tests, like demonstrating a skill, and theoretical exams to prove their understanding of the subject matter.
Drill and Marching Exercises
Clubs use formal, military-style drill and marching maneuvers to teach discipline, focus, and group coordination. Pathfinders learn to respond instantly to vocal commands, executing precise movements such as marching in step, turning on a dime, and forming orderly lines. This activity builds spatial awareness and teamwork, as the entire unit must move as a single, synchronized body. These skills are publicly demonstrated during formal parades, induction ceremonies, and inspection days.
Orienteering and Navigation
This activities teache Pathfinders how to find their way through unknown terrain using traditional navigation tools rather than digital GPS devices. Members learn to read topographic maps, interpret contour lines, calculate compass bearings, and account for magnetic declination. They practice these skills through competitive geocaching events and wilderness cross-country courses. Advanced sessions teach youth how to navigate at night using the stars and natural landmarks like moss growth or wind patterns.
